Brown County Eagle Classic
NASHVILLE — Seymour competed in Class AA of the Brown County Eagle Classic, while Trinity Lutheran ran in Class A.
Out of 17 teams, the Seymour boys scored 245 points and placed eighth out of 17 teams, and the girls scored 368 points and ended up 13th. The Trinity boys scored 514 points and were 18th out of 18 teams, while the girls scored 190 and finished eighth out of 14 teams.
Columbus North won the boys (40) and girls (38) meets in Class AA, Perry Central was the girls winner in Class A with 65 points and North Harrison was the boys winner in Class A with 43 points.
Leading Seymour were Jack Tormoehlen (38th, 17:03) for the boys and Zoey Johnson (48th, 21:22) for the girls, and leading Trinity were Jonathan Rollins (86th, 19:27) for the boys and Erika Horton (30th, 22:16) for the girls. Taylor Royalty, the Trinity girls team’s top runner, was unable to finish the race because of an illness.
“I was very pleased with the performance of Erika, Brittaney (VonDielingen), Danielle (Shelley), Haley (Couch) and Allison Voss,” Lady Cougars coach Andy Royalty said. “Today was a real turning point for our team. Because Taylor was unable to finish the race, it allowed the other girls to test themselves and reach deep and step up and answer the call.”
Trinity boys coach Bryan Ault said, “Time-wise, we did fantastic today, but we took a beating in terms of places. This was a fast course, and our team stood up and ran to their potential today with a lot of season PRs (personal records).”
Trinity’s next meet is Tuesday’s Big Blue Invitational at Jennings County, and Seymour’s next meet is Saturday’s FlashRock Invitational.
